Loved the Mojo article this month: Jim & Charlie vs XSM – which one’s the ‘real’ Simple Minds? All very well all us fans saying get back together, but great bands are like families, and we know how hard living with family can be. We’ve got five great, timeless albums to listen to, and any chance I get I’ll go see you play live. It’d just be cheaper if both XSM and ‘official’ SM are playing on stage at the same time…Please, Derek, Mick, Charlie, Brian and Jim…there’s a recession on.
If Derek, Mick and Brian never record together with Jim/Charlie again then I won’t be able to die a happy man. It’s as simple as that.

fantastic stuff and then they went shit and sold out in 83 but from 79 to 82 they were pure class as innovative as they come as and I Travel is way ahead of its time (excuse the pun) saw 5 x 5 gig and it was class but Derek should have been there
@greenhill1969 It was not the bass sound… It was the genius bass lines that he used…. To me…. HE was the SIMPLE MINDS… Ofcourse they never sounded right after him, or to my understanding…he left coz the rest didnt WANT to follow his mentality… my opinion. Well, ok, yes also, his bass sound also played a role… being so.. Derek! RESPECT.

nah i got it wrong (oh the years pass by and the mind goes off on a tangent) it was sweat in bullet . they were such a f*ckin brilliant group back then.

agree that’s reasonable though he did return for Glitterball, Neopolis is the only album I don’t like (even like Cry in bits) but he did play good bass on that album
